Robert Sorrentino and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Associates (OMSA) have reached a civil settlement with the federal and state government to pay $252,913.26 to resolve allegations that they violated False Claims Acts.

Sorrentino was the former owner of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Associates in New Haven before he sold his practice and retired in November 2014.

The allegations against Sorrentino alleged that his practice fraudulently billed Medicaid for oral surgery and maxillofacial services. He billed Medicaid for services that included general anesthesia services, the removal of bone or tissue and surgeries that were not performed or were otherwise medically unnecessary.

To resolve the allegations, Sorrentino and OMSA agreed to pay $252,913.26 in order to reimburse the Medicaid program, which covers illicit conduct occurring from Jan. 1, 2010 to Dec. 31, 2011.
